The best travel shows for kids

In this post I thought I would share the travel tv shows the sprouts and I love to watch.

I am excited to start exploring new countries and cultures with my Sprouts, with the way things are at the moment we haven’t managed to go far. I want to prepare them for the adventures to come, and to have their input as to where we decide to go. Therefore I have made a point of watching these shows when we have screen time.

Go Jetters

Go Jetters is a CBeebies program which follows a group of heroes around the world as they stop the plans of Grandmaster Glitch. Each episode features a different world landmark which the four heroes save from destruction. They are given “funky facts” by Ubercorn a disco dancing unicorn about the landmarks.

With superheroes and a unicorn taking the lead I have no problem getting the Sprouts stuck in. Check out the websites which are full of free resources to back up the episodes

Super Wings

The main star of Super Wings is Jett a little red aircraft who delivers packages around the world. He is given his location along with facts and words or phrases he can use there. The package is then delivered to a child who has usually ordered something to do with a festival, food or event unique to that country. Jett stays to find out what it’s all about very often coming across an issue which he helps to solve, with the help of one of his friends from World Airport.

Jett from Super Wings

As the Spouts get invested in the plot they learn without realising they are learning. Little Sprout will often play Super wings, pretending to fly to different countries, dressing up and doing dances (which is what appeals to her most). We often end up watching YouTube videos of people doing these traditional dances taking the education further.

Super wings can be seen in the UK on Amazon Prime and Cartoonito. Cartoonito also has some Super Wings related games, videos and activities on their website.

Octonauts

Octonauts are a group of animal rescuers and explorers who live on the Octopod under the sea. Many of the episodes are specific to a place for example the Amazon rainforest or the Arctic. Here Sprouts can learn about sea creatures from the area. The episodes generally follow a similar plot line, the Octonauts explore an area and meet the local creatures often helping them in some way. A lot of the episodes take place under the water getting a glimpse of different habitats, some also take place on a river bank or shore line. This is great for getting a different perspective of the world we live in.

Octonauts is shown on BBC channel CBeebies. See there website below for activities and games related to the show.

Travel kids

Travel kids is a YouTube channel. They have a series of videos called Are we there yet? hosted by the children themselves. The kids meet a local guide who takes them on an adventure. The guide gives facts in a child friendly way as they travel together and immerse in history and culture. They also learn a few words in the local language.

I like that it is very relatable to the sprouts, the kids ask questions that kids would want to know the answers to rather than what adults think they might like to know.

My World kitchen

This is another goody from CBeebies. My world kitchen visits children in their homes as they cook or bake food to show their heritage. The children will cook food giving basic steps and ingredients. The children will then invite a few friends over to try the new foods having set the table with decorations from the country they are show casing .

This is great for Sprouts who aren’t good with trying new food. My Little Sprout isn’t very good but watching other children trying ingredients they may not have had before has helped just a little. I think it’s good for Sprouts to see how different people live even if it is just how and what they eat.

Again loads of great resources, games and also recipes on their website.

I hope you and your Sprouts will enjoy the shows as much as we do. Let us know what you think and which travel shows you enjoy.
